Kim Sandler believes in the power of an Oak Hall education. Her daughter, Lauren ’22, entered Oak Hall in 2012 and is currently in seventh grade. Their desire to give back to the community and the faculty was immediate, “My husband and I really like Oak Hall because it is a safe and secure place for our daughter. We appreciate the focus on character development and the values of our school community; Lauren has made great friends and is supported by the faculty. We give to Oak Hall because we feel it is important to take care of the teachers, who do so much to help all of the students. We know it is important to our community to not only attract great teachers, but to retain them as well.”
For Kim, philanthropy is a family affair. Her grandfather, Irving Diamond a leading industrialist in the steel business, set the example for their entire family. During his life, he dedicated much of his time and financial resources to supporting the health and well-being of young people in Elizabeth, NJ. Kim’s mother, Ruth Diamond Sandler, passed this tradition down to her daughter. Ruth, a philanthropist in her own right, supports Oak Hall because she sees how happy Lauren is here. When Kim inquired as to why she made a gift to the school, she responded candidly, “If they didn’t need it, they wouldn’t have sent me a letter!”
And she is not wrong – the Sandler gifts to the Fund for Excellence
support our faculty, classroom, and professional development budgets immediately. Kim noted that there is, “a true sense of family here, where students’ talents are recognized and encouraged. Our daughter Lauren has shown an interest in theater, languages, and world cultures and her teachers have helped foster her creativity and created opportunities to shine. She recently participated in a district theater competition and received a superior rating. We are looking forward to seeing her compete at the state level in February.”
Oak Hall is very lucky to have a strong and caring parent community that partners with our faculty to make us strong for our students and alumni. Thank you Sandler-Cohen family, for your support of our faculty and our community.
