Oak Hall School was honored by the Florida High School Athletic Association on June 2, 2010 by winning the Class A Private School Division of the Floyd E. Lay Sunshine Cup All-Sports Award. It marks the fourth time in school history that the Eagles have won the award as they were also honored in 2002, 2003 and 2006.
“This is truly a big accomplishment for our student-athletes and coaches,” said Jeff Malloy, Director of Athletics. “I am proud of everyone because many viewed this as a young, rebuilding year. But once again, the dedication and work ethic of our student-athletes and coaches put Oak Hall on top.”
Oak Hall won District Championships is the sports of girls’ golf, boys’ golf, volleyball, softball, and boys’ tennis. They were also the District Runner-up in girls’ cross country, girls’ basketball, and girls’ track. The volleyball team advanced to the Region Finals, the girls’ golf team was the Regional Runner-up, the boys’ tennis team was a Regional Semi-finalist, and the softball team was a Regional Semi-finalist. The cross country and track teams for girls also had representation at the state meet. “I think the representation of multiple teams for both sexes in the FHSAA State Series speaks volume about the diversity and quality found throughout our athletic program,” said Malloy.
Oak Hall was joined by Buchholz who finished 8th in the Class 5A Public division and PK Yonge who won the Class 2A Public Division as the only Gainesville area schools to receive recognition in the All-Sports award. “I am most proud that we won this with a high degree of sportsmanship and integrity. Most important to us is that we do things the right way at Oak Hall. Doing things the right way makes recognition like this more meaningful,” said Malloy. |
