REQUIREMENTS & EXPECTATIONS
Application Process
Admission to the Integrated Science Distinguished Scholars Program is selective and by Invitation. Students apply through a formal application and interview process and are evaluated based on their academic performance, interest in science, and alignment with the program’s core values of scholarship, leadership, and service. Invitations are extended to students who demonstrate curiosity, initiative, and the potential to thrive in a rigorous, project-based learning environment.
Courses
Students admitted to the program are required to enroll in at least one Integrated Science-approved course each year. The curriculum supports concentrations in Biomedical Science, Engineering, or Computer Science, with additional electives available in advanced sciences and STEM-related fields.
Sample course offerings include:
- Principles of Biomedical Science Honors
- Applied Anatomy and Physiology Honors
- AP Computer Science Principles
- Marine Biology, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics C, and more.
These courses are designed to support interdisciplinary learning, innovation, and hands-on application of scientific principles.
GPA
To remain in good standing, students must maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.5. This standard reflects the program’s academic rigor and ensures that students are prepared to engage deeply in research, experimentation, and collaboration. Students are also expected to demonstrate proficiency in their area of concentration.
External Science Events
Each year, students are required to attend two external science-related experiences: one visit to a science museum or industry facility, and one field-based experience outside of Oak Hall School. These may include job shadowing, STEM-focused summer programs, industry tours, or museum exhibits. Participation must be documented and approved by the program coordinator.
Research Presentation
All students will complete an annual research or design project to be presented at the Integrated Science Symposium. Students are also required also participate in at least one presentation panel per year and are expected to contribute thoughtful questions and insights during guest speaker events. Professional attire is required for formal presentation panels.
Collaboration and Behavior
Students in the Integrated Science Program are held to high standards of professionalism, collaboration, and respectful communication. They are expected to:
- Contribute productively to group work
- Offer constructive feedback
- Maintain a focused, organized, and respectful work ethic
- Attend panel presentations and guest speaker events
Failure to meet behavior expectations may result in academic consequences or removal from the program.
Service
Students must complete at least 5 hours of science-related community service each academic year. Examples include:
- Volunteering at local STEM events
- Participating in Oak Hall’s Annual Showcase event
Service fosters leadership and gives students opportunities to apply their knowledge to real-world challenges that benefit their broader community.
